A welcome email and a team roster for every board

New members get one email that explains the whole season, and families can tag each square with the player it supports.

Two additions to Football Squares: one for the families who joined from a paper sign-up sheet, and one for the teams that track fundraising by player.

One email that explains the whole thing

Plenty of families join a board from a clipboard at practice. They've paid, they have squares, and they've never seen the app. The welcome email is for them. It goes to every member holding a paid square, and it opens with "You're in. Here's the whole thing, once."

It covers:

  • which squares are theirs,
  • how signing in works, with a code sent to their email,
  • what the Board, Standings and My Squares screens are for,
  • how a Monday goes, start to finish,
  • the prizes,
  • and how winnings work, including the 60-day rule for a prize nobody collects.

The numbers in it are read at the moment it sends: how many squares are still open, what the prizes are, and which game is next. A household's squares all ride in the account holder's copy, and replies go to the board's admins.

I send it myself, and it takes three steps before a whole team hears from me: a run that sends nothing, one real copy to a single address, and then a confirmation that has to name the board. An email to every family on a team shouldn't be one slip away.

A roster, and a player on every square

A board can keep a team roster: each player's name and jersey number.

  • When a family buys a square, a "For player" choice appears. It starts on Entire Team.
  • With more than one square, they can split them between players.
  • A member can change the tag later on their own household's squares, and so can an admin.
  • Roster names are shown only to signed-in members of the board. Someone who isn't signed in doesn't see the kids' names.
  • Remove a player from the roster and their squares stay sold. They just lose the tag.
  • Boards with no roster don't show any of this.

A calmer admin screen

The admin tab shows this week's game with a link to show the rest of the season, and the board's count reads as sold, pending and unsold. Drawing numbers and locking the board for the season are mine alone, so no admin can set off either one by accident.
