What happens after the Squares digits are drawn
A game-day email with your numbers, results the next morning, a choice to collect or donate a win, and a plan for a game that gets canceled or moved.
Buying a square is the first step. This is everything that happens after the digits are drawn.
Game day
- Fresh digits are drawn before each Monday night game. Right after the draw, everyone with squares in play gets one email listing their squares and the digits they landed on.
- During the game, the board shows the score and who's winning right now.
- Results go out the next morning to everyone holding a confirmed square, and each winner gets their own copy.
- A week picker lets anyone look back at any drawn week: its board, its winners, and when its digits were drawn.
Some Mondays have two games. A pool's settings say whether its board plays the early game or the late one, and a board on the early game stays on it once that game kicks off. I can also switch a week off ahead of time for a team, and a week that's off never counts as one of the draws a square is good for.
Collect or donate
A winner decides what happens to the prize: collect it, or donate it back to the team.
- The admin sees who has asked to collect, which cash players need to be paid, and who hasn't decided yet.
- A winner who hasn't chosen gets a nudge at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. The last one names the date the prize will go to the team.
- At 60 days with no answer, the prize goes to the team and the winner is told.
- A player the app has no email for, like a family that paid cash, is never nudged and never has a prize donated for them.
- Donated winnings show on the board as the team fund.
A team doesn't end up carrying unclaimed prizes all year, and nothing goes to the team until four reminders have gone out first.
When a game is canceled or moved
A canceled or postponed game doesn't wipe out the week on its own. The week waits, and I get an alert right away. Once the game is played I enter the quarter scores by hand, or I void the week. Entering scores takes two taps and blank boxes are refused, so a week can't be scored by a slip of the thumb.
The results email and the board follow whatever was entered. While one week waits, the board moves on to the next drawn week and doesn't sit frozen on the old one.
I can also run a draw that was missed, and close or reopen square sales for a team. The rules page spells out what happens to a canceled or moved game, so nobody has to ask.
